I make handmade lampshades in a small workshop in Sandton, Johannesburg. Every shade is cut, gathered, and bound by hand. No factory finish, no shortcuts.
I work in small batches with natural fabrics I have sourced over years from a mix of South African makers and imported heritage houses. Every shade gets a matching or contrast bias binding at the top and bottom, and a piped cord along the seam. Those are the small finishing details that most people notice only when they are missing.
The construction is what makes them last. I use a hardback frame, which is a stiff PVC ring covered in fabric worked over it by hand. It holds shape over time, resists slumping in South Africa's humidity, and gives each shade the structure to sit properly on any base. It is why my customers tend to keep their lampshades for years, not seasons.
If you are not sure what will suit your base, my lampshade sizing guide covers the two rules I use. Or send me a photo on WhatsApp and I will tell you what I would put on it.
Common Questions
What sizes do your lampshades come in?
Sizes range from 12cm across for the minis, up to 45cm for the larger gathered shades. Every product page lists exact dimensions.
What lamp fitter do they take?
All shades take a standard E27 ring fitter, which is what most South African bedside and table lamps use.
How long does delivery take?
Three to seven working days to main South African centres via The Courier Guy, up to ten for outlying areas. Free delivery over R3000.
Can you make a shade in a specific fabric I choose?
Yes. Message me on WhatsApp with a photo of the fabric and a rough size and I will quote it directly.
