Block Print

Block print is one of the oldest textile techniques still in use. A hand-carved wooden block is pressed into natural fabric, registration mark by registration mark. The slight irregularity in spacing and ink density is what gives a block print its handwriting.

We use block-printed cottons for a handful of shades in our catalogue, gathered and trimmed by hand in our Sandton workshop. The pattern carries a warmth machine-printed fabric simply doesn’t, and it reads beautifully against plain walls and natural-wood furniture. Pair a block-print shade with the Beaumont hand-turned bobbin base for the two-handmade-pieces look.
