Description
Gingham is one of those fabrics everyone knows. Think school dresses, picnic cloths and farmhouse kitchens. On a lampshade the small blue check softens right down and reads almost like a texture, and I can just picture it in a bedroom.
Unlike my gathered shades, this one is smooth. I cut the fabric and bind it by hand over a hardback frame, so the check stays crisp and straight and the light comes through soft and even.
It sits happily on painted furniture and natural wood. If you’re pairing it with one of my bobbin bases, Mistbound is the one I’d reach for, and for a child’s room I’d go with the mini.
Made in Sandton
I make every shade by hand in my small Sandton studio, one at a time. It travels countrywide with The Courier Guy, packed carefully so it reaches you in the same shape it left me.
It looks lovely on my Beaumont bobbin lampstand. A local wood turner shapes each one on a lathe from solid South African Saligna, and I finish it in Mistbound, Heritage Green or Emberstone. If you’re an interior designer, WhatsApp me on 084 509 5892 for trade pricing.

Common questions
What lampshade fitter do your shades take?
All Enclave lampshades come with a standard BC (B22) ring fitting that suits most bedside, table and floor lamps in South Africa.
Are your shades hardback or softback?
Hardback. Every Enclave shade is bound onto a rigid polystyrene laminate frame. That’s what stops the fabric slumping in humid Joburg summers or coastal weather, and it’s what keeps the shade’s clean shape year after year.
How do I care for my lampshade?
Dust it gently with a soft brush or the brush attachment on your vacuum on low suction, roughly once a month. For a mark or smudge, dab it with a barely damp white cloth, but never soak the fabric. Keep it out of direct sunlight and it should look as lovely in ten years as the day it arrived.
Can I order a custom lampshade?
Yes. I take commissions in your choice of colour and size, from any fabric I already work with, like a Sanderson, a block print or something else from the studio. I don’t work from client-supplied fabric, but I do love collaborating on projects, so if you’re a designer or working on something bigger, let’s chat. WhatsApp me on 084 509 5892 with the base you’re pairing it to and I’ll come back with proportions and a quote.
Do you ship nationwide in South Africa?
Yes. Every order goes out with The Courier Guy, boxed and cushioned so it reaches you just as it left my studio. Delivery takes 3 to 5 working days after dispatch, and you’ll get a tracking link as soon as the parcel is collected.
Where is Enclave Decor based?
I run a small handmade lighting studio in Sandton, Johannesburg. I make and bind every shade by hand, a local South African wood turner shapes the bobbins for my lamp bases, and I do the sanding, colour, wiring and assembly myself in the studio.
